Agency Details
Basin PBS signed on the air over 30 years ago as KOCV-TV at Odessa College. The station was founded on New Year's Eve 1986, and was owned by Odessa College, and later by the Ector County Independent School District, briefly, before transferring to Permian Basin Public Telecommunications, Inc. in 2005. On February 14, 2006, the station changed its call letters from KOCV to KPBT (the "P" & "B" stand for Permian Basin). Basin PBS holds a community license and has oversight from a very energetic Board. We received our 501(c)(3) designation as a public charity on June 20, 2006. In the summer of 2007, we branded ourselves, Basin PBS which reflects our station's mission to "show its love" for the culture and personality of our unique West Texas community here in the Permian Basin. Now, years later, Basin PBS continues to grow and thrive answering the needs of the Permian Basin — and we are so grateful to be here.
